Motorised Blinds

Motorised roller blind in Portobello Redcurrant fabric fitted in a Coventry kitchen, with remote control - by Coventry Blinds

There’s a practical reason most of our customers go motorised, and it’s rarely just laziness. It might be a wide conservatory roof blind that’s awkward to reach by hand. A set of bi-fold door blinds where the cord is in the wrong place. A child’s bedroom where you want no cords at all. A south-facing kitchen where you’d quite like the blinds to lower themselves when the morning sun hits a certain angle.

We’ve been fitting motorised blinds across Coventry and Warwickshire since 2007, from our own family-run workshop on Endemere Road. We’ve seen the difference the right system makes day to day — once fitted, most customers wonder why they waited.

Which power option is right for you?

The two main options are rechargeable battery motors and mains-wired motors. Both have their place.

Battery motors

The simpler option for most homes. No wiring involved — the motor sits in the headrail and recharges via a USB lead every 3-6 months. Quiet, reliable, and ideal for retrofitting to existing windows or rented properties where you don’t want any electrical work.

Mains-wired motors

The better choice for heavy blinds, very wide windows, or installations where you want frequent use without ever recharging. Need an electrician to run a power feed, which we can coordinate as part of the job.

We’ll recommend the right option for your specific windows during the free survey, based on what you actually want to do with the blinds rather than what we’ve got most of in the van.

FAQs – Motorised Blinds

All our motorised blinds operate by remote control as standard. Most systems also integrate with the major smart-home platforms — Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit — for voice control, app control or automated schedules. Setting your blinds to open at sunrise, close at sunset, or all close together when you leave the house is genuinely straightforward to set up. We walk you through it before we leave.

Why Choose Motorised Blinds?

Motorised blinds offer more than just convenience. For many Coventry homeowners they’re a properly practical solution to problems manual blinds can’t solve:

  • High and hard-to-reach windows — roof windows, skylights, clerestory windows and stairwell windows are awful to operate manually. A motor makes them effortless.
  • Large windows and doors — heavy wide blinds on patio doors or full-height windows are cumbersome by hand. Motorised, they glide.
  • Accessibility — for anyone with limited mobility, motorised blinds give back the independence and ease that manual blinds can’t. We fit a lot of these for older customers across Coventry and Warwickshire.
  • Child safety — no cords, no chains, no risk of entanglement. The safest option for any room used by children. (We’re BBSA-accredited and child safety is built into every installation we do, motorised or otherwise.)
  • Smart-home schedules — lower the bedroom blinds at sunset, raise the kitchen ones at 7am. Once set, you forget about them.

What can be motorised?

Almost any blind type — roller, Roman, vertical, Venetian, pleated, conservatory. If you have existing blinds you’d like to upgrade, it’s sometimes possible to retrofit a motor without replacing the whole blind. We’ll be honest at the survey about whether that’s worth doing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Motorised Blinds

How often do battery motors need recharging?

Depending on usage, typically every 3-6 months. Most charge in a few hours via a standard USB cable. We deliver them ready-charged so you don’t need to think about it on day one.

Can existing blinds be motorised?

In some cases, yes — depends on the blind type and condition. We’ll assess this during the free survey and tell you honestly whether it’s worth it versus a fresh installation.

Do motorised blinds work during a power cut?

Battery-powered motors will keep working during a power cut. Mains-wired motors won’t, though most can be operated manually as a fallback.

Are motorised blinds noisy?

The motors we use are very quiet — a soft hum, nothing more. Quieter than a fridge.

How much do motorised blinds cost in Coventry?

Add roughly £80-£180 per blind for the motor over a manual equivalent, depending on the motor type and blind size. After your free home survey you’ll get a fully itemised written quotation with no obligation.
