Motorised Blinds

There’s a practical reason most of our customers choose motorised blinds, and it’s rarely just convenience. It might be a conservatory roof blind that’s impossible to reach by hand. A set of wide bi-fold door blinds where pulling a cord is awkward. A child’s bedroom where you want no cords at all.
We’ve been fitting motorised blinds in Coventry homes for years, and we’ve seen how much difference the right system makes day to day. Once fitted, most customers wonder why they waited.
Which power option is right for you?
The two main options are rechargeable battery motors and mains-wired motors. Both have their place.
Battery motors are the simpler option for most homes. There’s no wiring involved — the motor is built into the headrail and charges via a USB lead every few months. They’re quiet, reliable, and ideal for retrofitting to existing windows without any electrical work.
Mains-wired motors are the better choice for heavy blinds, very wide windows, or where you want high-frequency use without recharging. They require an electrician to run a power feed, which we can coordinate.
We’ll recommend the right option for your specific windows during your survey visit.
Smart home compatibility
All our motorised blinds can be operated by remote control. Many of our systems also integrate with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit, letting you control your blinds by voice, app, or automated schedule.
Setting your blinds to open at a set time in the morning, or close when you leave the house, is simpler than it sounds — we’ll walk you through the setup before we finish.
Child safety
Motorised blinds are completely cord-free, which makes them the safest option for homes with young children. No cords, no chains — just a remote or voice command.
We’re BBSA-accredited members and child safety is built into every installation we carry out, motorised or otherwise.
What can be motorised?
Almost any blind type can be fitted with a motor — roller blinds, Roman blinds, vertical blinds, Venetian blinds, pleated blinds, and conservatory roof blinds. If you have existing blinds you’d like to upgrade, it’s sometimes possible to retrofit a motor without replacing the whole blind.

FAQs – Motorised Blinds
How often do battery motors need recharging?
Depending on how often the blind is used, typically every 3 to 6 months. Most charge in a few hours via a standard USB cable.
Can existing blinds be motorised?
In some cases, yes — it depends on the blind type and condition. We’ll assess this during your survey.
Do motorised blinds work during a power cut?
Battery-powered motors will continue to work during a power cut. Mains-wired motors won’t, though most can be operated manually in that situation.
Are they noisy?
The motors we use are very quiet. You’ll hear a faint hum, but nothing disruptive.
Why Choose Motorised Blinds?
Motorised blinds offer far more than just convenience. For many homeowners, they’re a genuinely practical solution to problems that manual blinds can’t easily solve:
- High and hard-to-reach windows — roof windows, skylights, high clerestory windows and stairwell windows are notoriously difficult to operate manually. A motorised system makes them effortless to control.
- Large windows and doors — heavy, wide blinds on patio doors or full-height windows can be cumbersome to operate by hand. A motor makes them glide smoothly with the touch of a button.
- Accessibility — for those with limited mobility, motorised blinds provide independence and ease of use that manual blinds can’t match.
- Child safety — no cords means no risk. Motorised blinds are the safest option for homes with young children.
Battery vs Wired Motorised Blinds
Battery-Powered Motors
Battery motors are the most versatile option — they can be fitted to virtually any blind without any electrical installation work. Modern lithium battery motors last 6–24 months between charges depending on usage, and many can be recharged via USB. They’re ideal for retrofit installations and rental properties.
Hardwired (Mains) Motors
Hardwired motors connect directly to your mains electrical supply via a discreet cable. They’re ideal for new builds or renovation projects where wiring can be incorporated into the build. They require no battery changes and are typically quieter and more powerful than battery alternatives.
Smart Home Integration
All our motorised blind systems can be integrated with the most popular smart home platforms:
- Google Home / Google Assistant — control your blinds by voice or via the Google Home app.
- Amazon Alexa — simply say “Alexa, close the bedroom blinds” for hands-free operation.
- Apple HomeKit — control your blinds via Siri or the Apple Home app.
- Remote handsets — every motorised system comes with a remote handset as standard.
