Faux Wood Blinds

Faux wood blind slat close-up showing realistic fine wood grain texture, fitted by Coventry Blinds

You love the warm classic look of wooden blinds, but the kitchen is a steam pit and the bathroom isn’t much better. Real wood would warp within a year. Faux wood is the answer.

At Coventry Blinds we’ve been supplying and fitting faux wood Venetian blinds across Coventry and Warwickshire since 2007, made to measure in our Endemere Road workshop and installed by our own family-run team. The look is genuinely close to real timber; the practical performance is in a different league.

Why faux wood usually beats real wood

Modern faux wood has evolved a lot. Cheap versions still look plasticky; quality ones (the kind we fit) are difficult to tell from real timber at any normal distance. And the practical advantages over real wood are substantial:

AdvantageWhat it means in real life
Properly waterproofRight for kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and utility rooms where real wood would warp, swell or split.
Genuinely durableResists fading, cracking and chipping. Perfect for family homes with children, dogs, and the occasional flying biscuit.
Effortless cleaningWipe with a damp cloth. No oils, no waxes, no “don’t spray cleaner near it”.
Realistic finishModern grain textures and colour matching are extremely good. Most visitors won’t notice it isn’t wood.

Design choices: building your look

Slat sizes

The wider the slat, the more open view you get and the more “shutter-like” the closed appearance:

  • 35mm — subtle, more traditional. Suits smaller windows and Victorian properties.
  • 50mm (most popular) — bold, contemporary, resembles classic plantation shutters. Our most-requested slat width.

Colours and textures

Choose from a huge range:

  • Classic whites and creams — clean, airy, contemporary coastal feel.
  • Rich oaks and walnuts — mimic traditional timber, lovely warmth in living rooms and studies.
  • Smooth grain finishes — sleeker, more minimalist painted-wood look.

Tape finish upgrade

Swap the standard lift cord for a decorative wide fabric tape running down each side of the blind. Adds a real touch of luxury, hides the slat holes for better room darkening, and quietly elevates the whole look. Worth considering, especially on bedroom installations.

Expert installation

Faux wood is heavier than aluminium, so the fittings have to be properly engineered. We use premium robust headrails that guarantee smooth lifting and reliable tilting for years — cheap headrails sag under the weight, ours don’t. We measure to the millimetre for either recess or face-fit installations, and every blind meets current UK child safety standards with integrated cord and chain devices as standard (cordless and wand-operated options available).

Frequently Asked Questions — Faux Wood Blinds

Do faux wood blinds look like real wood?

Yes — modern manufacturing creates realistic woodgrain finishes that closely resemble natural timber. At normal viewing distance most people can’t tell the difference once installed.

Are faux wood blinds waterproof?

Yes — that’s their main advantage over real timber. The PVC-composite core won’t warp, crack or discolour in damp conditions. They’re the right choice for kitchens, bathrooms, en-suites and utility rooms where real wood simply doesn’t last.

How do you clean faux wood blinds?

Quick dusting or a wipe with a damp cloth keeps them looking fresh. No special cleaning products required. The hardest part is remembering to do it.

Are they durable enough for busy family homes?

Absolutely. The PVC-composite materials handle daily use, knocks and the occasional pet incident without losing their shape or finish. We fit a lot of these in busy family kitchens across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Can I customise the colour and finish?

Yes — choose from a wide range of colours, textures and finishes, from classic whites and rich oaks through to sleek modern painted styles. We bring samples to your home so you can compare them in your actual light.
